Few properties in Canada are housed in buildings with this much history. The complex uses the French and Québec pavilions designed for Expo 67, on an island in the St. Lawrence.

Around it lies Parc Jean-Drapeau, with walking paths, river views and the downtown skyline across the water. Restaurants inside make the most of that outlook, and a performance hall hosts concerts and shows.

There is a gaming floor in the building. For many visitors it is secondary to the architecture, the dining and an evening on the island.

Height is the point. The hotel tower rises above the Canadian side of the gorge, and many rooms face the Horseshoe Falls directly.

Guests find a spa, an indoor pool, several restaurants and a large theatre with a steady programme of concerts and comedy. Clifton Hill, the promenade and the boat tours are a short walk or shuttle away.

A gaming floor is one part of the resort. Plenty of guests treat Fallsview simply as a comfortable, well-placed hotel for a Niagara weekend.

Airport hotels are rarely this lively. River Rock sits on the Fraser River a few minutes from Vancouver International, with the Canada Line close by for trips downtown.

The resort has hotel rooms and suites, a pool with water features, a spread of restaurants and a show theatre. A marina sits on the river beside it.

Gaming is available on site. Many guests, though, are simply passing through Vancouver and want dinner, a show and a good night's sleep before a flight.

Lake country sets the tone. Casino Rama Resort stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, close to Lake Couchiching and about ninety minutes north of Toronto.

The hotel tower has rooms and suites, a spa and a fitness centre. Several restaurants cover everything from quick meals to a sit-down dinner, and a large entertainment centre hosts touring performers through the year.

The gaming floor is one feature among many. Most visitors come for a show, a spa day or a break near the lakes around Orillia.
